What opportunities do you want for your childrens’ future? Whether it is higher education opportunities, scholarship opportunities, or even after-high school opportunities, ParentCamp is here to help educate and provide families with the tools needed for their children to succeed after high school. ParentCamp, a national non-profit, is pleased to announce that a second ParentCampNKY – College and Career Edition will be held on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022 for the Northern Kentucky region. Through the collaboration of regional partners, this free event is being presented by GROW NKY (Growing Regional Outcomes Through Workforce) and will take place via Zoom from 7 – 8:30 pm ET. This event is for middle school and high school families and educators as well as professionals. ParentCamp is honored to work with GROW NKY to help guide local youth through the overwhelming, confusing jungle of career and college exploration can be- and knowing which pathway to take is the first step.
The last ParentCampNKY College and Career Edition event was an outstanding success; many parents of all ages were provided with crucial information that revealed different choices and opportunities best fitted for their child’s success. Inna, a parent who attended the previous workshop, was very pleased with what she gained from ParentCampNKY: “I got a ton of information that will help my kids prepare for college- thank you so much for having this session!” Kelly, another parent-attendee, said the same: “The knowledge of the facilitators and valuable information to help us start our journey as we prepare for high school next year.” There is lots to gain from ParentCamp NKY, no matter what age your children are.
“As a parent and educator, I am delighted to bring welcoming remarks to ParentCampNKY – College & Career Edition – Part II. Navigating viable post-secondary options for our children can seem overwhelming. This College and Career Edition of ParentCampNKY will assist families in learning about the numerous ways we can all support and guide our children to and through their post-secondary journey to careers aligned to their unique talents, strengths and aptitudes.” said Dr. Kathy Burkhardt. Dr. Kathy Burkhardt worked for 27 years in the field of public education serving as a teacher, principal, curriculum specialist, assistant superintendent and 11 years as a school superintendent. She currently serves as the Senior Director of NaviGo, a non-profit college and career prep division of Learning Grove. NaviGo empowers students to achieve their dreams through discovering their talents and aptitudes while setting aligned goals and viable plans for their future.
“What makes a ParentCamp so different than traditional family-school-community engagement events is that there are no presentations, each room will have a facilitator of dialogue and help to harness all the expertise and experiences that is in the room” states ParentCamp (@ParentCamp) President Julia Pile (@juliepile), a Boone County resident who heads up the non-profit. “Everyone has knowledge to share about their experiences and sharing that knowledge makes an individual feel valued which is one of our basic core human needs. It is amazing how quickly people feel connected to each other during a ParentCamp.”
There will be at least 20 different rooms for participants to choose from and each room will be repeated twice. One of the basic conditions of a ParentCamp is the freedom of location, meaning participants can move from room to room as they wish. With so many rooms being offered, an individual could visit 2, 4, 6 or even more rooms during the night. It is all about the attendee being a learner and being in charge of their learning.
The flow for the evening will be:
7:00 – 7:15 pm – Welcome and Setting the stage of how a ParentCamp works
* Because of the importance of understanding how a ParentCamp works, attendees need to arrive by 7:05 pm
7:15 – 7:45 pm – First Session
