GROW NKY Partners with ParentCamp for
CareerCamp – Helping Students and Families Navigate the Career Journey
Thursday, March 2, 2023 via Zoom
7:00-8:30 pm EST
ParentCamp, a national non-profit, is pleased to announce that a free, virtual CareerCamp will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 7:00-8:30 pm EST. CareerCamp is designed for middle school and high school families, educators, and business professionals, to help guide local youth in navigating the world of career exploration.
Sometimes, just knowing which path to take is the first step for students. For the first time ever, a collaboration of regional partners is coming together to provide this event, focused on the journey of career exploration, preparation, and readiness – beyond the traditional definition of a college degree.
ParentCamp is honored to partner with GROW NKY (Growing Regional Outcomes Through Workforce) for this inaugural event. GROW NKY is a strategic workforce collective composed of leaders across key industries, educational institutions, and community organizations working collaboratively to leverage the region’s assets to grow, attract and retain a globally competitive workforce. GROW NKY focuses on five key areas of workforce development, following a cradle-to career model.
“As the backbone organization of GROW NKY, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is committed to connecting our community with college and career readiness programs that will prepare our workforce for the future,” said Brent Cooper (@bcoopernky), NKY Chamber (@NKYChamber) President and CEO. “We encourage parents to attend this CareerCamp event, to learn more about the tools and resources available to make sure their child is set up to succeed on their journey to a career.”
“What makes a CareerCamp (part of the ParentCamp family) different than other, traditional family-school-community engagement events is that there are no presentations. Instead, each room provides a facilitator, who helps to capture all the expertise and experiences in the room and promote conversation,” states ParentCamp (@ParentCamp) President Julia Pile (@juliepile), a Boone County resident who heads up the non-profit. “Everyone has something to contribute, based on their individual experiences, and sharing this knowledge makes us feel valued – which is a basic, core human need. It is amazing how quickly people feel connected to each other during a CareerCamp.”
The CareerCamp event will take place via Zoom – a free communications platform that allows users to connect with video, audio, phone, and chat – there will be at least 10 different rooms for participants to choose from, and each room will be repeated. One of the basic conditions of a CareerCamp is the freedom of location, meaning participants can move from room to room as they wish. With so many rooms being offered, an individual could visit 2, 4, 6 or even more rooms during the night. It is all about the attendee’s ability to choose what their learning experience looks like.
The flow for the evening will be:
7:00 – 7:15 pm EST – Setting the stage: How CareerCamp works (*No one is admitted after 7:05 pm)
7:15 – 7:45 pm EST – First Session (*participants can visit any number of rooms)
7:45 – 8:15 pm EST – Second Session (*participants can visit any number of rooms)
8:15 – 8:30 pm EST – Sharing and Celebration

“With so many students struggling to find their sense of self and sense of direction since the pandemic, CareerCamp represents a golden opportunity for those involved in the lives of youth to make timely, significant contributions toward changing the trajectories of young people’s futures,” states Tami Blevins, Operations & Program Manager at Grant Us Hope. The social-emotional learning and positive mental health implications are tremendous, and the opportunities for enhanced self-identity, self-confidence, and self-determination are priceless.”
ParentCamp is proud to partner with many organizations of the GROW NKY workforce collective for this event, including the following: Gateway Community and Technical College (@GCTC_News), Northern Kentucky University (@nkuedu), NKY Chamber of Commerce (@nkychamber), Northern Kentucky Education Council (@NKYEC1), Boone County Schools (@Boone_County), LearningGrove (@Learning_Gove) and Thomas Moore University (@ThomasMoreKY). “The planning team for this large regional event has been incredible to work with, the regional resources and people to whom we have access are unmatched, and the number of organizations represented by the diverse number of facilitators is incredible” states Julia Pile. “This has truly been a labor of love and a gift to our community.”
ParentCamp is held worldwide every other Wednesday on Zoom. ParentCamps and CareerCamps are always free, and anyone is welcome to join. People from 48 states and 8 countries have joined the Wednesday night event.
