The COVID-19 pandemic has taken an especially heavy toll on Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous communities. The learning loss was especially acute in schools that predominantly serve students of color. While the worst-case scenarios from the spring may have been averted, the cumulative learning loss could be substantial, especially in mathematics—with students on average likely to lose five to nine months of learning by the end of this school year. Can you believe it?!  March Madness has started, clocks have sprung forward and the first day of spring is upon us!  The first day of spring is bittersweet for me, it is usually my mom’s birthday and she passed away in 2014 from Alzheimers/dementia.  I smile when I see the tulips and daffodils start to peak through the ground and think of her.
