The COVID-19 pandemic has taken an especially heavy toll on Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous communities. The learning loss was especially acute in schools that predominantly serve students of color. While the worst-case scenarios from the spring may have been averted, the cumulative learning loss could be substantial, especially in mathematics—with students on average likely to lose five to nine months of learning by the end of this school year. We love going to visit our partner schools in Gary, Indiana (@GarySchools) and were thankful for the invitation to come experience their STEM night on Tuesday, September 27th. The kids AND adults had fun. We learned a lot of great STEM activities to share with kids, overall just an incredible night of laughs and smiles. Building relationships and community. Can you believe it?! March Madness has started, clocks have sprung forward and the first day of spring is upon us! The first day of spring is bittersweet for me, it is usually my mom’s birthday and she passed away in 2014 from Alzheimers/dementia.
