Room 1 [Connect] – Creating a Culture for our Kids to Look at the World in a Positive Way
Facilitator: Cam F Awesome (@camfawesome), Diversity & Inclusion Consultant
We are thrilled that Cam is back with us this week. Cam’s will be leading a session of dialogue on how we can create more positivity in this world and to help our kids have a more positive outlook. There is so much research around positivity and the long-term impact both mentally and professionally of having a positive mindset.
Cam is an Emmy Nominated, 6 time USA National Champion, 4 time Golden Gloves National Champion, 2 Time Olympic Trials Champion Heavyweight boxer, and former Captain of the USA National boxing team. Cam Awesome is also a proud Member of the National Speakers Association. Cam is a diversity consultant whose overall goal is to address “the elephant in the room” in a way to create change, not place blame.
Room 2 [Strengthen] – Addressing Family Trauma with Love Languages
Facilitator: Scott Sells, (Ph. D.), Founder, Family Trauma Institute
Dr. Scott Sells is back with us this week. You may remember him from a couple of Virtual ParentCamps back in January. We are thrilled his schedule has slowed down enough to join us this week.

Scott holds a Ph.D. in both Marriage and Family Therapy and Social Work from Florida State University. He has over 20 publications and has authored three books entitled: Treating the Traumatized Child: A Step-by-Step Family Systems Approach (Springer Publishing, 2017), Treating the Tough Adolescent: A Family-Based, Step-by-Step Guide (Guilford Press, 1998) and Parenting Your Out-of-Control Teenager: 7 Steps to Reestablish Authority and Reclaim Love (St. Martin’s Press, 2001). Scott specializes in working with impossible or stuck cases whose families have not been successful with other counselors. Scott was a former Professor of Social Work at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA and Associate Professor at UNLV in Las Vegas, NV. He founded the Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL) model that is being used across the US and Europe. Scott enjoys hiking in Montana, writing, spending quality time with God, and being a husband to his wife, and parent to his twin boys: David and Jonathon.
Room 3 [Strengthen] Parenting through Family Journaling
Facilitator: Dennis Mathew (@storiesbydennis), Children’s Author, Books by Dennis
And we welcome back Dennis this week! His sessions were also so well received that he has agreed to join us almost every month. Yeah for us AND you!! Journaling can be a great form of expression and reflection. Dennis will facilitate a session on how journaling can be a great way for a family to connect and reflect together.
Dennis is an elementary school speech pathologist going into his 15th year working in the public schools. Since 2019, he have also been a children’s author and songwriter. He has three books and one music album published. His content is all integrated with SEL, the 7 mindsets, the growth mindset, trauma informed care, language enrichment, social skills topics etc. To date he have sold over 20,000 copies of his books (90% of which has been distributed to public schools nationwide), presented to around 120 schools and reached 70K+ students with his books and music. Room 4 [Connect] – Recognizing and Nurturing Resilience in your Kids and in Yourself
Facilitator: Sara Truebridge (@saratruebridge), Founder, Educating The New Humanity
Hear from a parent who is a teacher and a real resilience researcher! Findings from resilience research support that success for all is increased when environments model and provide caring relationships, high expectations, and opportunities for meaningful participation and contribution. This interactive session informs participants of the current research in the field of resilience and provides them with information, tools, and strategies that will empower and support them in transferring resilience research into practice for their kids, students, and themselves.
Dr. Sara Truebridge, Founder of Educating The New Humanity LLC and EdLinks™ LLC, is a consultant, researcher, TED Talk presenter, educator, and author specializing in the area of resilience, combining her experience and expertise in the areas of research, policy, and practice to promote success and equity for all. Sara is the Education Consultant to the documentary, “In Search of Greatness.” She was also the Education Consultant on the films, “Beyond Measure” and “Race To Nowhere.” Sara is a faculty member in the Educational Leadership doctoral program at Southern New Hampshire University.
