#ParentCampChat Week 16 Recap – Getting Input from Families & Community for Programming  – Wednesday 10/09 9:30 pm ET/6:30 pm PT – Ready for Week 17 – Let’s Talk Family Time!

Did you miss #ParentCampChat Week 16 – Getting Input from Families & Community for Programming –      You can catch up by scrolling through all of the tweets on our Wakelet summary:  https://wakelet.com/wake/3bc6151d-0fd5-4837-beee-85e6bbfc9e0e

We received so much insight from our participants this past week, let’s see what they had to say…

@juliepile – We just completed surveys of T, P, S and Alum for our PTSA. We used Google Forms and sent links out via email from school, FB and Remind. We had 60 responses which we felt was pretty good.   Google Forms is nice because you can see the responses either graphically or have them automatically record in Google Sheets.  Her big challenge is translating surveys, etc into various languages.

@lauragardner offered some insight that there is no magical or free way to get a decent translation, it’s got to be done by a human and that costs…  and….. I love focus groups! For immigrant communities, I think this type of in-person gathering will give you the most data! And…It’s also important to learn about the most preferred communication platforms and Apps for each immigrant community.  You’ll reach Chinese parents in a hot second if you use #WeChat.  You’ll reach Korean parents if you use #KakaoTalk.  Each comm has its methods.

@Howells_Owls – We have similar tools with our O365 suite and I know HOW to use them, but they aren’t useful unless I use them! I have used Smore invites with interactive response, but so far not a lot of response to them.

@DJE_29 – I found out that we are not hitting the mark when it comes to communicating with our underserved community.  I think that the more personal contact we have with these communities the better.

@CoachBurnz – Round table community discussion went great for us.  Lots of feedback to guide our bond campaign & our future planning.  Great conversations & collab w families.

@LauraGilchrist4 – To build the relational trust that drives family-school partnerships – like filing out surveys, letters – families, edus & community need to TALK, BE TOGETHER and feel seen and valued – both outside of school (design events in community near people!) and in.
