ParentCamp would like to thank Ted Huff for hosting a great chat last week centering around the topic of Greater School Involvement for Parents.  Some highlights from the chat:

  • Kris Jenkins (@PreK33) has a very open door policy with her parents – they volunteer in the classroom, at home, have lunch with their children and go on field trips.
  • Chris Leglieter (@cleglieter) holds ParentCamps and Parent Book Studies to refine their work and get better at what they do.
  • Peggy Cormeny (@PegCormeny) holds regular FACE (Family and Community Engagement) meetings with family, school and community members.
  • Julie Pile (@juliepile) mentioned that parent involvement looks different at each level, now that she has a high schooler she is seeing more community centered events like car shows, potlucks and alumni nights.
  • Andria Jackson (@MrsJackson) mentioned Parent Leadership Basecamps which may cover topics such as advocacy, college and career readiness, school report cards, equity and achievement gaps
  • Jennifer Ball (@TravelingJenB) mentioned her district overseas mentoring which included community mentors who work with their students
  • Ted Huff (@TedHiff) talked about Viking Dads at his school and their impact of projects and presence of being in their middle school.
  • Taking parent involvement to a new level is Joe HIbbit (@joeymh43) who offers parent PD which allows parents to sign-up for higher-ed themselves.
