Our chat last week was inspired by Thomas Guskey’s (@tgusky) article – http://tguskey.com/importance-first-two-weeks/
Some highlights from the chat:
@TedHiff – You set the tone for the entire school year based on the first weeks of school!
@Howells_Owls – Don’t overlook the simple things that build relationships and tell a story. I asked parents to send me their first day of school pics today and dropped them all in a short video to send out to all our parents. Small effort, big impact! Here is her video! – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GlJp4HARMU
@LauraGilchrist4 – I found learning kids names quickly and saying hi/their names whenever I’d seem them, – was a strong way to make kids feel seen & valued. I made a name of the games – if I missed names after day 3 they got candy. I studied.
@JeremyDBond – It’s funny, parents post their first-day pictures on Facebook, schools may do their own first-day activities, but they are not brought together.
@joeymh43 – The first weeks of school will be perceived by students as “These people really do care about me” or “This is business as usual” either way the pendulum swings will be incredibly significant.
@PegCormeny – Teachers make home visits to their families before and first weeks of school to build relationships.
@paigefickbohm – Use @Flipgrid to have students record themselves saying their names!! Use it to study later!
We had many new faces join us! Welcome to the #ParentCampChat family!
