This is a great story that Roberto Ferdman of VICE News did on Principal Terry Patton at Franklin Squire Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore, Maryland.
They asked, “what do you need to get to school” – some very simple solvable answers, a clock to wake up on time or clean clothes. The school bought everyone clocks, someone donated a washer and dryer.
A reward for strong attendance is a hair cut. “Self image can hurt attendance”.
THIS is how families and communities can get involved. Just by asking…”what do you need”, that answers could be very simple and solvable.
